2014 Open House

OPEN HOUSE 2014

Annual event that provides members and the general public the opportunity to tour the Photo Club's facilities and view an exhibit of photographs submitted by members. This is an opportunity to meet and discuss the activities and resources of the many groups of the RA Photo Club including Nature, Urban, Audio-visual, Portrait, Figure/Glamour and Digital.

The Open House also provides a unique opportunity to visit the studio, the traditional darkroom and the scanning lab. Visitors can get a sense of the audio-visual capabilities of the Club and see its extensive publications library.

To help celebrate the Club's 75th (1939-2014) anniversay, a special exhibition, 75+ YEARS OF VINTAGE CAMERA, is held in Clark Hall. Film camera buffs, don't miss this one!

For the Beauty of It – Creating Luminous Fine Art Photographs with Stephen Harrison

Join Ottawa based artist Stephen Harrison for a journey into images that exist solely for their aesthetic beauty rather than client-centric commercial needs. Through an exploration of personal work, this seminar focuses on images that are created on a photographers own terms. The goal: To showcase the potential of the photographic medium through sensitivity, awe, and subtle magic.

Forensic Photography with David Michael Richard

CSI: RAPC
The presentation would be an explanation of the Forensic Photography program at the Canadian Police College. I would talk about the equipment we use and the types of photographic situations we find ourselves in, such as:

crime scenes
fingerprint photography
footwear and tire tracks
fluorescence photography
close up photography
night photography
publicity photographs

I would also talk about digital imaging and the types of enhancements we would make to our images primarily using Photoshop.

I was born and raised in Ottawa. I started my career as a police officer in Edmonton and then moved to the Vancouver area to join the Delta Police Department. I've been a police officer for 32 years. In 1992 I became a member of the Forensic Unit, where I received my training in Forensic Photography. In 2007 I was invited to teach at the Canadian Police College, here in Ottawa. This year I have taken over the lead teaching role in Forensic Photography.

Abstract Assignment & General Competition

Abstract
Like abstract art, Abstract photography concentrates on shape, form, colour, pattern and texture. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object. The focus is often only a small part of it. Viewers of an abstract shot may only know the essence of the abstraction or understand it by what is implied. Normally the object or image will not be a literal view of the subject.

A single assignment image must be entered.

Once the assigment image has been entered then a single general image may be entered.
