Portrait Group

Portraiture is the creation of planned images of people. Portraits can be made on the street, in an office, at home, in a studio or any location the photographer and model choose. Although the lines between portrait, glamour, boudoir and nude photography sometimes blur, our Portrait Group shoots work only with fully clothed models.

The portrait group is open, without additional cost, to all members of the RA Photo Club.  However, you must be a paid-up member of the Studio Group if you wish to take part in shoots, workshops or other events for which the studio is used.  You will also have pay for the services of models hired for any shoots in which you take part.

Portrait Group Activities

During the fall and winter the Portrait Group will organize events in the studio and outdoor every three weeks. These sessions are planned as learning experiences and will each focus on either technical or artistic issues related to portrait photography.
The number of photographers and models will depend on the location and learning objectives of the session. In all cases the cost of the models will be split among the participants. The cost per photographer for these events is usually around $20.

Sessions will take place alternatively on Saturday and Sunday but evening sessions could also be organized.

Studio Sessions

Studio sessions will take place in the RA Photo Club Studio. It should be noted that Studio membership is required to participate in these sessions.

Outdoor Sessions

Outdoor sessions will take place at different locations in the Ottawa/Gatineau area either in a park or other public area.

NOTE: Introduction to Studio Workshops

To give new Portrait Group members an orientation to the studio, the Studio Manager will offer at the start of the year a workshop, which could be repeated if there is sufficient demand. This workshop will cover 1) Studio facilities and equipment,2) Rules for studio use and 3) Proper storage of equipment.
The Introduction to Studio Workshop is typically presented on an evening during the week.
