While light painting has been around for at least 50 years, I believe it hasn't been duly explored.

My ambition is to move beyond mere illumination of the subjects and to venture into the world of staging a fantasy. At the end of the journey, I see myself orchestrating every object within the camera's view including the whole landscape in the symphony of light.

I spent close to a full year experimenting with various light media and with some quite unusual gadgets. Almost a full year went into researching optics and lights and related disciplines before I could even start pondering over the ephemeral part of the craft, or even think to unleash my imagination.

I am now happy to move to the next stage and to embark on my projects with technical confidence that frees me to express my untamed conceptions.

Tatiana's photos and style of work were great to see (and filling her commitment to deliver her presentation despite her cold was appreciated!).  I've added a snorkel to my winter photo equipment case.  If you were there, you know what that's for Smiley  It's a neat solution.

If you're looking for somewhere to buy colour filters, one location is Wall Sound, on Courtwood Crescent.  Their business is supplying professional lighting and sound equipment and that includes lighting gels.  Full sheets, around 2x2 feet are about $8.  However, they also have used squares for 50 cents each.  They are a bit scuffed and heat warped, but they're still good for use.  Wall's hours are 9 to 5:30 weekdays and until 3 on Saturdays.

Hi Andy, I came in late and missed the part about the snorkel, what's that about?

It keeps you from breathing warm air onto your cold camera. Tatiana uses the snorkel upside-down (IIRC) so the end is sticking into her jacket rather than up into the air. Maybe that helps keep you warmer too? Smiley

. . . I hope I'm not giving away any guarded secrets!

BTW Andy, thanks for the tip on the gels! (I missed that earlier)
