On Saturday November 6, 19 RAPC members and guests in 7 cars participated in the 4th annual fall Iron Butt photo rally.\u00a0 The destination this year was up the Ottawa Valley, departing from Ottawa at 10:00 am, with the Antrim Truck stop in Arnprior as the destination for a dinner rendezvous late in the afternoon. As usual all decisions other that departure and dinner were up to the members of each shooting team.\u00a0 These included the choice of route, the frequency of the stops, the subject matter to be photographed, and the location and duration of a lunch break. Nature cooperated by giving us some variety in the shooting conditions, ranging from cloudy, some too brief periods of sunshine, and snow. Warmer temperatures would have been welcome.<\/em><\/p>\n

Based on experience in every preceding year, it was highly likely that that at least two vehicles would end up photographing the same location at the same time.<\/em><\/p>\n

This year the old M&R feed mill in Quyon was a spot where this occurred, with the two teams, Abby Gossage, Heather Dawe, Dietmar Gebhardt, and Corry Berghout, arriving shortly after the two-car tag team consisting of the Blue Cube of Photographers with Myke Geiger, Pauline Aubertin, Andre Faubert, & Bill Coveny and Diane Wadden.<\/em><\/p>\n

A highlight of the day for me was walking on the Ottawa Central Railway bridge (unnamed), which crosses the Ottawa river connecting Morris Island to Pontiac Station. We obtained permission from the home owners whose property abutted the railroad property to gain access to the bridge, and so were able to shoot images from beside it, on the approach to it, and for a couple of us from the middle of the bridge.<\/em><\/p>\n

Further up the valley, the Blue Cube of Photographers explored Bryson and some of L\u2019Ile du Grand Calumet.<\/em><\/p>\n

Other teams on the road that day were: 1) Andrea Scheldt, Elaine Hum Sim, & Brian Mazur 2) Cynthia Stewart, Bill McCloskey, & Freeman Keats 3) Jamie Johnson & Roger Miller and 4) Gilles V\u00e9zina & Robin.\u00a0 I’m looking forward to seeing the AV shows that the teams will prepare, showcasing images from their adventures.<\/em><\/p>\n
