The General Competition submissions were judged on Thursday February 17th, 2011 and the presentation night was on February 22nd, 2011.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Judges were:
\n<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Jim Borcoman
\n<\/strong>Education officer, Director of Exhibitions, Senior Curator of Photographs, and Chairman of the Department of Prints, Drawing and Photographs of the National Gallery of Canada from 1960 to 1994. Founded the National Gallery’s Photographs Collection in 1967.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ela Kinowska
\n<\/strong>Has been awarded the Grand Prix in the International Photography Biennale in Mexico for a Superhero print from the Kanadiana series. Photographs are held in private and public collections in Canada, Poland, USA, England, Serbia, Montenegro, Greece, Hondura, Spain, Slovenia and Brazil.<\/em><\/p>\n

Howard Sandler
\n<\/strong>Is a Member of the RA Photo Club and was promoted to the Senior Level in Competitions in 2010.\u00a0 He specializes in portraiture and has studied classical posing and lighting techniques.\u00a0 He has won the RA Photo club highest overall score in the intermediate general category 2 years in a row in 2008 and 2009.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n21 prints and 156 digital slides were submitted for a total of 177
\n116 junior level submissions with an average score of 17.97
\n42 intermediate level submissions with an average score of 19
\n16 senior level submissions with an average score of 19.31
\n3 master level submissions with an average score of 20<\/em><\/p>\n

[Jeanne & Marc kindly provided jpgs of\u00a0prints that were commented on by judge Jim Borcoman.\u00a0 Marc’s print seemed to the judge to offer the viewer a visual poem about the\u00a0end of the industrial age while\u00a0he said that he enjoyed the ambiguity & luminosity he saw in Jeanne’s image. – Ed.]<\/p>\n
