Club member Marc Gaudet has recently photographed at the Carrie Furnace<\/a>\u00a0in Pennsylvania.\u00a0 Steel production ended there in 1982 and the\u00a0site is now a National Historic Landmark and apparently part of the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Marc’s photographic survey of a relic of the\u00a0industrial age in the US can be found here<\/a>.\u00a0 There is a photo gallery and an AV show (exe file).\u00a0 It is a strong body of work and I encourage you to take a look at it.<\/p>\n

If you’re interested The Library of Congress also has a collection of photos of the site here<\/a>, not sure if any of them date from when it was operational.<\/p>\n

\u00a0[As an aside if you wanted to make an inkjet print of any of these they have been scanned at reasonable resolution so you could download a TIFF file and do that.\u00a0 LOC photos are often not copyright restricted so you could, for example, download a high res 115MB TIFF \u00a0of Dorothea Lange’s original, unretouched, “Migrant Mother” image here<\/a> and print – and sell – as many copies as you liked.\u00a0 Don’t do that with Marc’s pictures though…]<\/p>\n
