One of my favorite activities is to walk though the streets of Ottawa looking for subjects to photograph. Perhaps influenced by the work of William James Topley, I search for sites reminiscent of a city and culture in development. The sites of Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, Cummings Bridge, Ottawa River shore and alleys are among many in the city that when framed carefully appear like the time recorded by Topley.

Photography intrigued me as an special form of expression while living in Cuba, my birthplace, and while studying psychology in Montreal. However, it wasn’t until I moved to Ottawa three years ago that I became seriously interested in pursuing photography as a career. This summer I will be completing the Part Time Certificate offered by the School of Photographic Arts Ottawa.

It has been two years of arduous study and passionate involvement in photography. This medium allows me to express myself, my beliefs and to appreciate my surroundings. Also, my background in psychology has shaped my visual insight and understanding of subjects, and whether it is people, urban landscape or still life I am interested in capturing the quality of the subject that makes it believable. www.alexeikintero.ca
