What Makes The Photo Club Work?

Club Secretary Barbara Lapointe writes:

Do you know what makes this Club fun for you and for me? Lots and lots of volunteers! (More than SIXTY of us, at the time of writing.)
And how do we thank these people for making our Club what it is? We nominate them for an award!

So, what ARE these non-photographic awards that Club workers can earn?

Well, first of all, there is the Outstanding Contribution Award, for people who have contributed (not money, but time and effort) to the RAPC during their first five years of membership. Up to five of these awards can be given each year.

The Alice Gillies Award is for someone who has been a member for at least five years. Only one award a year is given.

The Club Life Membership Award is given by the RA Centre, but the winner is nominated by the Club concerned (every two years). To be nominated, a volunteer must have demonstrated their commitment over a minimum of ten years and must have served on the Club Executive. Those who win a Photo Club Life Award never again have to pay their Club membership fee.

Recently, the Photo Club has also been recommending volunteers for two other RA Centre awards: the RA Centre Life Membership and the President’s Award.

It’s now time for the Awards Committee to solicit nominations for these non-photographic awards. Please nominate volunteers whose work has helped you and others enjoy the Club. You don’t need to nominate someone for a specific award; you just need to nominate them. The Committee will determine which award they are eligible for.

The deadline is Tuesday 5 April 2011.

Nominees will be asked to complete a standard RAPC resumé form (thus they will know they have been nominated). Then the Awards Committee will rank the nominees according to a point system and will make recommendations to the Club Executive, who must approve all winners. The awards are presented at the end of season RAPC and RA Centre’s Award Banquets.
