Photographer’s notes:

[Image 1] Ganga Aarti Shot with a 200mm f2.8. This image tries to capture the drama and intensity of the evening Hindu ritual on the Ganges involving music, smoke and priests such as this one.

[Image 2] Bathing In the Ganges Shot with a 200mm f2.8, it shows the this man during his bathing rituals in the early morning on the Ganges. The pollution from the wood fires makes the rising sun quite dim. I liked his expression, something between interest and annoyance.

[Image 3] Jeweler And Ganesha Shot with a 18-200 zoom, this image was a grab shot while walking down some back street in Bangalore one evening. It is so very Indian in many ways, the color, the street shops, the Ganesha idol in the background, the heat… The surprising thing is that it was shot at ISO 6400 and printed 17×22 without any noticeable noise. Something to be said about the latest generation of sensors.

[Image 4] Streams In Badwater Shot in Death Valley with a 70-200 lens, it shows the all but dry salt floor of the valley with the Panamint Range rising steeply out of the valley floor. The early morning light is providing a blue shadow on the white salt and a warm orange glow on the mountains, the two aspects tied together by the reflections.

[Image 5] Stairway To Heaven Shot with a 18-200 zoom. With this image I’m showing a contrast of the rather desolate and scruffy woman sitting on the stairs compared to the spiffy people in the high end clothes shop – the are literally worlds apart. This picture simply materialized in front of me while I was looking at the reflective steps and wondering what to do with them.
