I joined the RA photo club back in 1964…50 years ago. I was a 17 year old high school student thirsting to learn more about photography. There were no schools to learn such a profession back then unless you travelled to Ryerson in Toronto or to Rochester NY. The RA photo club provided for me the opportunity to learn not only the basic photo skills but exposed me to various situations on outings and darkroom techniques.
I remember friends like John Blakey and Frank Thomas. The fellowship, and guidance I received carried me forward. I graduated and join Professional Photographers of Canada and my mentors change to people like Chris Lund, John Evans, Malak and others. But it was at the RA Photo Club that the journey began.
I owe a lot to the club and have stayed in contact over the years, participating in the judging program. I have many friends here even today. The seeds that were sown into my life by club members sprouted and carried me forward into a wonderful and successful career, that has lasted over 40 years. It is wonderful to return each year to judge and be inspired again and again by the quality of work the club inspires and produces in its members. I owe a deep and sincere thank you to each and every one of you!
