Mike Heffernan has worked primarily in the software industry but has delved deeply into various manifestations of the artistic world, ranging from photography to theatrical design and acting, oil painting and, most recently, musical composition.
His interest in photography brought him to the RA Photo Club where, in 2006, he sparked formation of a lively Urban Group, devoted to shooting objects, places and people in the urban environment. Scores of club photographers took part in shooting a succession of community festivals and events – in one summer producing 3,500 photos by 33 members, all posted on an online promotional gallery. Mike’s efforts were recognized by the club in an Outstanding Contribution Award.
He has made several presentations to the club, including one on the future of photography. In his presentation tonight, drawing upon his multitalented background, he seeks to painting a picture of the photography of the future. Combining his technical skills and artistic bent, he takes us on a breakneck tour of how photography will evolve as a business, a medium, a technology and as an art form.
