The Ottawa Orchid Society is holding its annual show on April 21-22 at the Nepean Sportsplex and are extending an invitation to local photographers to come and photograph orchids, and also to participate and exhibit their work in our annual Ottawa Orchid Show. The show displays over 2000 live orchids and a star attraction each year is the Orchid Art Gallery which features an adjudicated competition for orchid- themed fine art, fine crafts and photography. In 2011, some 50 local artists displayed over 150 pieces of their work which varied from wrought iron to oils and acrylics and digital photography.
There are four classes for photographers to enter: orchids in nature, cultivated orchids, digital painting and the theme class this year which is Orchids and Water. (An opportunity for nature lovers and flower people to enter a competition for free) . Exhibitors are asked to enter by April 12, entry is free and there is no fee for exhibits. Should artists offer their work for sale and find a buyer, the Society charges a 10% commission. Additional information on entry classes, registration forms and the show is posted at www.ottawaorchidsociety.com.
For those who wish to photograph orchids, the show holds a special session on Sunday morning when photographers are invited to take pictures
