This is going to be a great year for the Studio of the RA Photo Club! Following a very successful Open House, Sexy Pinups, the first of many photography workshops in the updated studio, was held over the weekend. As with many of the workshops offered this year, studio membership was not required but those with membership were able to save on the full cost of the event.
Mike Giovinazzo graciously hosted the workshop. The always beautiful and playful Kristina Fournier was the model for the day. Isabelle Lavallée was the hair and makeup artist. An afternoon session was added to accomodate the overflow from the original morning session.

Mike covered the details of lighting, wardrobe and posing for a successful pinup shoot. Students who were encouraged to review the concepts of the Pinup before the shoot. Everyone had a chance to decide what wardrobe or props Kristina was to use. Several students brought in their own props and wardrobe to add to to the huge selection brought in by Mike and Kristina. This made for a fun and engaging photo shoot. With the Kristina decked out in retro-style fashion and a variety of props, the group was able to reconstruct the poses, lighting, and expressions for that nostalgic sexy pinup look.

Mike, a master in communicating concepts to both model and willing students, was instrumental in recreating the popular pinup images of yesteryear. He also followed up with some tutorials on post-processing for that classic pinup look. The above example was edited in Lightroom using the colour preset Yesteryear.
For the lighting setup, Mike recommended using the two large soft boxes for key and fill lights, metered for f11. The background was lit with a strip-light at f16 using the much anticipated boom-stand that we now have in the studio.
