DEVANT LES BARRIERES DU KAMOURASKA

By Michel Dorais

The Art Centre of Kamouraska (Lower St-Laurence, Quebec) is holding the fifth edition of Rencontres photographiques du Kamouraska. This year, eight photographers who worked in the area last summer were invited to exhibit their work in eight different villages.

The guest of honor was Canadian photographer Bertrand Carrière (http://www.bertrandcarriere.com) who most recently followed exactly the same steps of Paul Strand around the Gaspé Peninsula in 1929 and 1936 and produced an exhibition and a book, both stunning.

St-Anne-de-la-Pocatière-3All exhibitions were outdoor, printed with anti-UV ink on rain-resistant material. I am fortunate enough to have been invited by the village of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière to host ten of my work at the rest area in the village.

If you have an opportunity to visit the area between now and August 4th, it is an excellent way to discover eight small villages and see eight interesting photography exhibitions.
