CITY HALL ART GALLERY
110 Laurier Avenue West
Open daily 9am to 8pm
Until 29 September at the City Hall Gallery you can see about 60 of the 206 art works added last year to the City’s collection. 20 of the 60 are photographs. The selection is made by a peer assessment panel which includes several photographers. 126 of the selections were donations, but 76 were purchases and 4 were commissions. I do not know whether the photographs were purchased or donated.
The chosen photos include photographers such as Simon Andrew (Midway County Motel Pool), David Barbour (street scene, San Francisco), Clive Cretney (Captivity #1), Colwyn Griffith (Dust with Mugs), Jonathon Hobin (2 large prints of an older person’s head and legs), Karsh ( a small portrait of Dr. Robert Hubbard), Ramses Madina (welders at night), Richard Nigro (Clown 17), Cindy Stelmackowich (Victoria), Jennifer Stewart (Windows and Doors) and Genevieve Thauvette (Melons).
You may not like everything they obtained, but it’s useful to know that the City is buying art (hopefully some photographs) and to see what fellow artists are selecting for the City.
