On Tuesday, September 24, the RA Photo Club held its annual Open House. Both existing members, potential members and the general public were given the opportunity to view, and in some cases sample, the photographic resources of the club. This included a traditional darkroom,(for those who still love film); the digital resources of the club (books and CDs covering Photoshop, Lightroom and other goodies); and, of course, the Club’s state-of-the-art Studio. Many of the member’s prints were on display, (looking forward to the People’s Choice Award) and audio-visual presentations were provided to enthusiastic audiences. One of the new exhibits this year was the Photo Book table and experts were on hand to show off their books and explain how easy they are to assemble.
The Open House provided an opportunity for all to speak to club leaders about our Competition structure and the subject areas of Nature, Urban, Audio-Visual, Portraiture and Glamour photography as well as our Photo Critique group. Many thanks to Izabel Dabrowski and her team for once again organizing an outstanding Open House. (Photos by Chak Wong and Mike Howarth)
A post Script from Izabel
Every time I’m working on the set up for Open House I start to feel somewhat grouchy. Why am I doing this? Surely the club can get along without all this effort. If only I had been better organized I wouldn’t be feeling so stressed! Then the night arrives and something almost magical happens. It all comes together and it works. So many club members work together to put on a really great show. The welcome table steers visitors to all the venues, the Print display is spectacular; despite a few technical glitches the AV shows are as entertaining as ever; the Studio and Darkroom are strutting their stuff; and everyone is going hoarse talking about the Club and their favorite aspects of it. This is what makes us a great club and makes it all worthwhile. The night is a great success and everyone enjoyed themselves. I haven’t heard the “People’s Choice” ballot count yet, but I’m quite sure we had at least 250 visitors.
So thank you everyone. Without your efforts we couldn’t have done it. The club has a whole year of wonderful activities for us to participate in. I can’t wait.
Thank You Izabel
