An orchid leaf had dried and it reminded me of British designer Tom Dixon
An orchid leaf had dried and it reminded me of British designer Tom Dixon’s ‘S’ chair. I thought of a grid of say ten by ten with all different leaves but one with an ‘S’ chair photograph. (I have a lot of grid ideas I don’t do.) As leaves were about to fall, I would pin them in the shape of the chair. Mostly they didn’t cooperate, and took on a variety of shapes, added to this was the fact that I didn’t have an ‘S’ chair or fifteen hundred dollars to get one. As I was working with powdered tempera on some abstracts and moving the leaves around the studio, they struck me as a possible ancient language. Mostly though they struck me as handsome.
