Program – 1 Feb – Filmmaking with Glen Russell

Filmmaking / Videography with Glen Russell

This presentation covers the unique opportunities and challenges of movie making using digital SLR cameras. The latest crop of DSLRs offer astounding video image quality that rivals professional gear. But videographers must also endure some significant drawbacks when using DSLRs for filmmaking. As well, the cameras produce files that make heavy demands on video editing systems and computers. Buying the latest DSLR is just the first step in creating a successful short film. As always, story writing, lighting, sound recording, music, graphics, and special effects continue to be critical parts of the process.
These aspects are discussed in the context of the latest short film produced by Immersionography Associates – “The Message – a cautionary tale”. The video was filmed using a Canon 7D DSLR and an AVCHD camcorder for B shots. The 14 minute video will be screened during the presentation to illustrate some of the key points of low budget, high quality filmmaking with DSLRs.
