Chris Klus is a member of the Orléans Photo Club, and is an Ottawa-based nature and travel photographer and writer.
A one-time member of the RA Photo Club, Eric Bawden’s credits include the initiation of the Medical Photography Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Glenn Bloodworth, member of the RA Photo Club since 2009, is a CAPA-certified judge. Glenn is also one of the founders and leaders of the RAPC’s Fine Art Group.
Judges’ Comments
In the judges’ opinion, a good many of the on-topic entries suffered from being shot under direct frontal lighting. Side-lighting is important in enhancing textures; flat lighting diminishes the effect of texture. The judges also commented that some photographers of on-topic images seemed to be confused by the difference between contrast and texture. Some substituted contrast for texture, others used contrast globally, thus diminishing the effect of texture in the image.
Scoring
Out of 103 total entries, there were nine first-place entries. These first-place entries received between 25 and 21 points (two images scored 21, three images scored 22, one image scored 23, two scored 24, and one scored 25).
