The General Competition submissions were judged on Thursday February 17th, 2011 and the presentation night was on February 22nd, 2011.
The Judges were:
Jim Borcoman
Education officer, Director of Exhibitions, Senior Curator of Photographs, and Chairman of the Department of Prints, Drawing and Photographs of the National Gallery of Canada from 1960 to 1994. Founded the National Gallery’s Photographs Collection in 1967.
Ela Kinowska
Has been awarded the Grand Prix in the International Photography Biennale in Mexico for a Superhero print from the Kanadiana series. Photographs are held in private and public collections in Canada, Poland, USA, England, Serbia, Montenegro, Greece, Hondura, Spain, Slovenia and Brazil.
Howard Sandler
Is a Member of the RA Photo Club and was promoted to the Senior Level in Competitions in 2010. He specializes in portraiture and has studied classical posing and lighting techniques. He has won the RA Photo club highest overall score in the intermediate general category 2 years in a row in 2008 and 2009.

[Jeanne & Marc kindly provided jpgs of prints that were commented on by judge Jim Borcoman. Marc’s print seemed to the judge to offer the viewer a visual poem about the end of the industrial age while he said that he enjoyed the ambiguity & luminosity he saw in Jeanne’s image. – Ed.]
