RAPC Honours its 2016-17 Volunteers

The RAPC awarded the Outstanding Contribution and Alice Gillies awards to club volunteers at the annual banquet, held this year on May 23.

The Outstanding Contribution award is given to volunteers who have provided service to club in the first five years of their memberships. Each member can get the award only once, but up to 5 awards may be given per year by the club executive on recommendation of Awards Committee.

This year, three volunteers were honored.

  • Grace Sutherland
  • Sue Kilbank
  • Al Kuiper

Sue is currently serving as the Club Treasurer and a member of the Executive.

Al is currently serving as a Nature Group Assistant and is the Digital Resources Manager.
Unfortunately, Al Kuiper did not attend the banquet; we will present the plaque to him in the autumn.

The Alice Gillies award is named after our first Club Life Member, and is given for contributions to club and to photography generally. The recipient must be a member more than 5 years. A winner may receive it only once, and only one Alice Gillies award is given per year. This year, there were fourteen nominations.
The Alice Gillies Award for 2016-17 is Izabel Dabrowski. Izabel has served in many roles over a number of years. We will let the following quote from one of the club members summarize her contributions.

“Izabel has been a consistent welcoming face to all members, new and returning, at the door and during the meetings. She has helped direct new members to other members for advice or assistance on questions about the club. Her six years of work with the Ottawa Public Library print exhibits have raised the profile of our club in the community, helped many members exhibit their images to larger numbers of people than most of them likely would be able to reach, and has made the exhibition process seamless for members who have contributed prints. Her loyal and consistent hard work in organizing our Open Houses for years has benefited our club and our members in celebrating who and what we are and in attracting new members. As with the OPL exhibits, her organizational skills with the Open Houses have made things smooth and easy for other volunteers as well as for the audiences.”

The club is very fortunate to have such strong volunteer contribution from a large number of members; without them, the club would not be able to operate.

We want to say: Thanks To these, and to all club volunteers! Well done, everyone!!!
