The Mechanicsville Winter Carnival, tucked in the area by Scott Street and Tom Brown Arena was held on Sunday, February 2nd at Laroche Park. There was plenty of snow for the horse drawn sleigh, family sledding at a nearby hill. family skating at the hockey rink and a puddle rink for the little people.
Lorrie Marlow of the community association, informed us that the rink was maintained by a local resident, Keith Brown along with his dedicated volunteers (young and old) for over 40 years.
A good time was had by all there. Even councilor Jeff Leiper dropped by to say hello. We enjoyed baked goods and hot drinks – all provided by the community association.
A number of RAPC members took some images of the activities around the park while exploring the Russian Orthodox Church and the neighbourhood. With the intrusion of Box houses popping all over the neighbourhood, one member, Brian Mazur, still found good shots of older homes with old garages, old weathered doors and rusty meter structures! You can see his cool photos through the RAPC Facebook!
Toward the end, a few members met up for drinks and dinner at The Hintonburg Public House restaurant.
Many thanks to Heather Dawe for co-ordinating this afternoon event. There will be plenty of images for the Urban Showcase coming up this spring!
