The RAPC Executive Council held a special meeting on Thursday April 2, 2020 via a web meeting. I would like to share some of the decisions that were made at the meeting. As always, we are trying to ensure that we minimize the risk to the members and are taking direction from public health officials and the RA Centre management team. Based on the information being released by the various levels of government, we anticipate the RA Centre will remain closed for the next number of months.
Given the current COVID-19 situation, we have decided to cancel ALL planned activities that require people to physically meet for the next few months, effective immediately. We are putting some contingencies in place, using the internet where possible, to continue to provide services to the club members. We will update the members as some of these events are put into place. The Executive Council will be meeting regularly via web meetings and as we did at the most recent meeting, any club members will be invited to listen in and participate.
April 2020 – All events at the RA Centre are cancelled. This includes the regular Tuesday meetings, Education Committee Workshop and all group meetings. The studio remains closed as well. There will be no group outings.
Annual Inter-Club Photo Competition – As was previously announced, this event has been postponed. A new date, likely no earlier than September 2020, will be announced once all four clubs that participate have agreed on a new date.
March 2020 Architecture Competition – We are looking to provide an online review, with judges comments, of all of the results of the March 2020 Architecture competition. We are working on the infrastructure / software to do this now. We anticipate that this will likely happen towards the end of April. The Competition Committee will be contacting the club membership with the details shortly.
April 2020 Face & Figures Competition – We are also looking at running the April 2020 – Faces & Figures competition as a digital image only competition (i.e. no prints). Anyone who has entered in the print category should ensure that the images that they have submitted online are the correct ones. If you do not want to have your images move to the digital category, please remove your entries from the Competition Entry Page of the club website. We will also be extending the submission deadline by two weeks to April 28, 2020. We are planning a web-based presentation of the competition results during the first two weeks of May 2020.
May 2020 – All events at the RA Centre are cancelled. There will be no group outings.
Bruce Wilson B&W Print Competition – this event has been cancelled and is planned again for 2021. Members that had planned to submit prints for the 2020 competition will be given a chance to enter the 2021 competition before it is opened up to other club members.
Annual Awards Dinner – this event has been cancelled. We will look at scheduling this later in 2020, possibly as part of the Christmas Dinner.
Annual General Meeting (AGM) / Election of Executive Council Members for 2020 – 2021 – this event has been deferred until later in the year until such a time that the RA Centre / RA Photo Club resumes normal operations. We anticipate that this will be no earlier than September 2020. The current Executive Council members will remain in their roles until after the AGM.
Summer 2020 – Monthly summer meetings – The club normally meets once a month during June, July and August. These meetings have been cancelled.
Fall 2020 – No specific plans have been made for the Fall at this time and we will work with the RA Centre to resume normal operations after the Centre reopens for business. The various groups and committees will be working to resume normal operations as soon as the RA Centre and Health Authorities give use clearance to do so. The Studio will reopen once the RA Centre resumes operations.
Membership Renewals – The RA Centre Management will send out renewal reminders one month before the membership expires. There is a link to an online form that should be completed and the RA Centre will contact the member shortly after receiving the completed form. We have heard from a member who has gone through this process that it works quite well. We encourage all members to renew their membership!
Other programs – we have launched a weekly challenge and members have been posting their images on the RAPC Facebook page. We are planning some other activities to help members keep up their photographic skills over the next number of weeks. We will testing these new tools and will be communicating with the members through email and / or the club website when these are about to launch. Some of these activities may require the members to sign up on the RAPC website.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to answer your questions as quickly as I can.
Please stay safe through these challenging times!
Chair, RA Photo Club.
