April 2011 Photo Shows in the Ottawa Area

[The show at LPM, “The Amarantos”, is work by Whitney Lewis-Smith, a second year student at the School for the Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO) where I teach. I’ve seen fragmentary glimpses of this project over the last few months: the photographer arriving to use the studio carrying assorted stuffed beasts along with test strips and trial prints floating in the wash tray. I’ve also seen one or two of the 8×10 wet plate glass negatives that were used to record the images. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished work in a gallery setting. -Ed.]
