2011-2012 Competitions Topics And Format Change

Based on the results of the Competitions survey, the following announcements were made at the Annual Awards Banquet on the 17th of May 2011:

Format Change

  • Six On-Topic Competitions, each accompanied by a General Competition.
  • Competitors MUST submit one, and only one, photo on topic and then have an opportunity to submit one, and only one, General Entry, regardless of the medium .
  • The entries may be submitted as a Print, digital slide, or film slide medium.

Awards Changes

  • Assignment Awards presented at each level to photographers who achieve the best score in the six assignments entries allowed.
  • General Awards presented at each level to photographers who achieve the best score in the six general entries allowed.
  • Photographer of the Year Award presented to the photographer who achieve the best score in all twelve entries allowed; six assignments and six generals.

September – Nature

The image should show the natural world, without the Hand of Man in evidence.
Ear tags, bird bands, and radio collars are permitted. Images with domesticated animals or plants do not qualify.
Images ranging from macro shots up to and including panorama, landscape, skyscape, waterscape are eligible.
Zoo and game farm shots are eligible providing no hand of man is in evidence.
Any kind of artistic interpretation of a natural subject is allowed, but the nature aspect must be retained.
Post processing is permitted to the extent where it allows the creator to show the image in the way it appeared when clicking the shutter.

October – Urban Still Life

Graffiti on a wall, leaves on a grate, lampposts in the fog, architectural interests, empty streets at night, urban trash, building decay, isolated refuse, etc.

November – At Night

The image must be taken at night

January – Motion

Every component of the image must be processed from photos taken on or after the 18th of May 2011. 
The photographer has free interpretation of the subject.

February – Cityscapes

The photographer has free interpretation of the subject

March – Faces & Figures

A photographic portrait which is a representation of a living person, especially the face, OR a photograph in which the subject, the human body, is the primary interest.
Entries are limited to POSED photographs of one or more human beings. The backgrounds may include statues or paintings of people, providing these are NOT the primary subject.
Pet and animal portraits are excluded.
There are no restrictions on location (indoors or outdoors) nor on lighting (ambient or artificial) however both must be CONSIDERED and CONTROLLED.
