RAPC Awards
The following has been adapted from the speech given by Awards Committee member Barbara Lapointe at the RAPC Awards Banquet on 17 May 2011:
The Awards Committee recognizes service to the Photo Club. These awards are for the people who make the club work, so that all of us can enjoy its activities.

The Photo Club awards are:
- The Outstanding Contribution Award, which goes to people who have volunteered during their first five years of membership and
- The Alice Gillies Award, for volunteers who have been members for more than five years.
In all cases, the Awards Committee makes recommendations which must be approved by the Club executive.
Outstanding Contribution Awards
Up to 5 Outstanding Contribution Awards may be given each year, but a member can only receive it once. This year there were 4 outstanding contribution award recipients:
Bruno Di Lalla
Bruno joined the club in 2008 & is currently chair of the Competitions Committee. He has also troubleshot technical issues at regular meetings and at digital group presentations and is known as the club’s lightroom guru. He designed and led a full-day lightroom workshop and has made lightroom presentations to the whole club and to the digital group.
Mike Giovinazzo
Mike has been a member since 2009 and has taken a position on the executive, as chair of the Communications Committee. Mike has also been active as a club photographer, audio visual group assistant, technical services assistant and editor of the new members information guide. He has run and assisted with several portrait group workshops.

Elizabeth Kaminska
Elizabeth has been a club member since 2008. Last year, she assisted with the social committee and, this year, she graduated to become chair of that committee, an executive position.
Elizabeth initiated publication of a condensed version of the new members information package, which has been reduced from 30+ pages to 7. She is, of course, responsible for the organization of our social events including the initiation of the annual banquet at an outside location, following a few unfortunate catering problems at the RA.
Brian Mazur
Brian joined the club in 2005. He was active as a digital group assistant for two years before becoming it’s leader and organizing it’s activities, for the past two years. Brian has also contributed as an assistant on the digital resources committee for the past four years. Brian made a presentation on Adobe Lightroom And Digital Asset Management to the digital group, as well as providing technical support at Audio Visual Group meetings.
The Alice Gillies Award
Jim Robertson
Before Jim even joined the Club in january 2004, he invited our members to an audio visual workshop at the Camera Club Of Ottawa. Jim has been extremely active with our Audio-Visual Group: he has chaired and co-chaired the group; he initiated and coordinated the Interclub AV Showcase; he coordinated and co-coordinated our own Club’s AV Showcase; Jim moderated the av group’s list server and web forum and has made several presentations to the group.
Then we have Jim’s Nature Group activities: Jim has been a co-leader for 8 years; he has prepared the group’s av shows, coordinated and assisted with the Fall Challenge judging, prepared the Fall Challenge av shows, as well as maintaining the Nature Group’s list server and web forum.
Jim was an active member of the competitions committee, including an av show to announce competition results that he prepared for them.
Jim initiated and organized the scavenger hunt, including preparing very entertaining av shows to present the results. He organized the open house one year and twice prepared an audio visual show of members’ favourite images for it.
Jim initiated, and then maintained “photo spots” on the club’s website for a total of five years, and he has moderated its web forum all this time.
Jim was the digital equipment coordinator for one year, during which time he prepared tutorials & handouts for other equipment handlers, regularly calibrated the projector, and trained members to run the digital equipment for their group meetings.
Jim has also made presentations to the club, one on digital equipment and a travel evening, with Gwen Williams.
Jim won the outstanding contribution award in 2005.
RA Awards
The following has been adapted from the speech given by Awards Committee member Marjorie Leach at the RAPC Awards Banquet on 17 May 2011:
RA Photo Club Life Member
Dave Elden
Dave Elden has been accepted as this years’ RA Photo Club newest life member

RA President’s Awards
Barbara Lapointe
Our photo club has its own awards for photography and volunteerism and the RA has separate awards for exceptional volunteerism.
This year Barbara Lapointe was nominated and accepted for the RA President’s Award.
Barbara has been a member for 29 years. She has been an active member through out those years, serving on the executive in three roles for a total of twelve years – she has the distinction of being the only member to take on the role of chair for three years. In her first year as chair she made her first announcement that this would be a non-smoking club! She was ahead of her time!
She has served as secretary for 7 years and anyone who knows how our executive meetings go, can marvel at her ability to accurately record the strong opinions of multiple speakers and wide ranging subjects. In the past, Barbara has chaired the competitions committee for two years.
Her roles in non-executive positions have been very diverse and demanding: Open House chair, Interclub coordinator, Nominating Committee for 10 years , which entails twisting arms of capable members and sweet talking them into taking on executive positions.. Then there’s Portrait Group chair, a time when we had more male models. She’s been newsletter co-ordinator, has served with a passion four times on committees looking at by-laws. She has worked diligently on our Awards Committee, 7 as chair, to insure that nominations are received and awards are fairly evaluated. She initiated summer meetings and has served on other committees.
She’s judged, and organized presentations in our club and other clubs and organizations.
Barbara’s volunteer efforts have been acknowledged by the 1997 CAPA Pewter Medal for service to our club. She received our Club’s prestious Alice Gillies Award in 2003 and she was awarded a Photo Club life membership by the RA in 2008.
RA Association Life Membership
Pierre Gauthier
Pierre Gauthier’s for the RA Association’s Life Membership has been approved by the RA Board Of Directors.
Pierre has been with the Club for 18 years. He has served on the executive in two capacities: he has served as Chair for two years and as Treasurer for 6 years.
He has been the leader of the Nature Group for an amazing 17 years. The Nature Group has evolved under his leadership to more frequent outings and now includes presentations and competions. His cheery attitude and optimism over the weather have caused membership in the nature group to climb to more than a hundred members. Nature outings been a great way to improve individual photograpic skills and to get to know other members. Pierre has judged nature competitions for all three area clubs and he is not afraid to take on other tasks when needed such as instructor of the photo techniques workshop, member of the nominations committee, by-law review committee, organizing future-planning workshops and he has been a club photographer.
Pierre has organized workshops and field trips, and initiated the technical services group this year.
He had three large roles for both CCC ‘98 and CCC ’03: budget planning, coordination of transportation for speakers, coordinator and assistant for field trips and workshops. For the 2005 International Digital AV Supercircuit, he was treasurer and assistant organizer.
