The RA Photo Club Blog
The Blog is seeking a meaningful role amongst the many timely communications channels open to clubmembers. The Blog is the direct replacement of the News Letter – remember that – lots of interesting articles, came out once a month and most of us couldn’t wait to pick one up. So my question: Is the Blog a “fish- out- of- water”? Is an electronic “news letter” still relevant in this modern age of technology? I would like to argue that it is. The Blog can be a very relevant communications tool which I would suggest can be used for things like: – a general information tool providing advance notice of photographic events around town for example, what’s coming up at the SPAO – and why it might be relevant to club members. – an education tool (note to Group Leaders)- a place to advertise the learning benefits of your events/workshops etc. Something more than an announcement. – a place to advertise our social events (like our Open House, Christmas Party etc.) – why should you come? (well I guess that’s fairly obvious). But a Blog can be much more than this. It can be an information tool, an education tool, a chat room, a discussion forum that extends beyond the existing club forums. We would welcome submissions on your favourite piece of photographic equipment and how it works – especially the new toys coming out. (Or what you don’t like about it). A favourite digital enhancement process (the old News Letter often had a list of the latest Photoshop techniques found on the web). We would also like to see reports on club outings (note to Group Leaders). It is your Blog so let’s use it. Let’s make it more than a “fish- out- of- water” or a simple listing of announcements. (The Blog may not be the best tool for announcing club events ; the Calendar, direct e-mails or the group forums are best for this). The blog is an open forum (open to all – not just clubmembers). Let’s make it an electronic News Letter with a variety of topics that encourages all membersto visit, learn and above all, participate. All Comments Welcome.
Have a great 2011/2012 season.
