Julie Waterhouse: Storytelling Using Visual Design

Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011 (7:30pm)
Place: Clark Hall, RA Centre
Speaker: Julie Waterhouse

Visual design is the deliberate choice and arrangement of elements in a photograph in order to effectively convey a message.  In this talk, I connect the dots between the way our brains work to perceive images, and how you can use this information to design images that tell your story.

We’ll discuss visual design elements, including light, colour, line, shape, and perspective, as well as principles such as dominance, balance and proportion.  Each of these is a tool that can you can use to reinforce a particular mood, emotion, or reaction, and, ultimately, better depict your unique vision.
