BRUCE WILSON MEMORIAL COMPETITION 2013

P1110977b
The competition is held every year in memory of the late Bruce Wilson, a senior member of the RA Photo Club and former Competitions Manager who died in January 1998. Bruce earned his promotion to the Senior level mostly with high-quality black-and-white prints. Hence all the entries in the competition that bears his name are monochrome prints (five allowed per participant).

This year the competition was held on May 14. There were 12 participants. The judge was Lori Pauli, Associate Curator of Photographs at the National Gallery of Canada. Click here for her bio. The Master of Ceremonies was John Elliott, Competition Chair.

The competition was won by Jayni Bloch. Honorable Mentions went to David Burt, Luc Delorme and Abigail Gossage. The other participants were Gerald Bloch, Raymond Charette, Michel Dorais, Robert Laramée, Jaliya Rasaputra, Louise Richard, Chantal Ringuette and Tony Sakalauskas.

  1. A very BIG Thank you to all the RA Photo Club Volunteers.
I joined the RA Photo Club in 2009 when I got my first camera and started doing photography as a hobby. That year I won the First place Junior award in the General Category (2009-2010). The following year I won the First place Intermediate award for the General Category (2010–2011). In 2011-2012 I won the First place Intermediate award in the General Category.
This year 2012-2013, I won the Performance Award in the Assignment category on the Intermediate level as well as the Bruce Wilson Memorial Competition that requires a series of five black and white prints on a theme, with my Women in India photos.
I run a busy private counseling practice, published a book about healing, run workshops on the work in my book and do photography in my spare time. It would be impossible to have won these awards without the help of all the volunteers in my photo-club.
It is with great gratitude that I accept these awards because I could not have done it without the dedication of all the volunteers of my RA Photo Club that makes the club function and the competitions possible.
    With the Kindest of Regards,
    Jayni
